MISA HANEDA

　​ヒトは、身体的な痛みを感じるときだけでなく、感情が溢れ出るときにも涙を流し、また誰かが泣く姿に心を揺さぶられる生き物です。泣くことは弱く恥ずかしいことだと言われる一方で、年齢的に成熟しても感情的な涙を流す特性からは、他人の弱い感情を自分のことのように想像し合える存在としてヒトが進化してきたとも言えるのではないでしょうか。
 

　AFID（空中浮遊ディスプレイ：Maxell社提供）が映し出す像は、まるで本当にそこにあるように見えて思わず手を伸ばしたくなりますが、永遠に触れることは出来ません。この体験の不思議さや、暗所で見たときの幻想感が印象的で、わたしの中で夜空に浮かぶ月を見たときの感覚に重なりました。これを発想の起点に、本作品では星が変化していくタイムスケールの中に、”共感する存在”としてのヒトを浮かび上がらせます。

  Humans shed tears not only when experiencing physical pain but also when emotions overflow. Sometimes we are deeply moved by the sight of someone else crying. While crying is often seen as a sign of weakness or embarrassment, the fact that humans continue to shed emotional tears even into adulthood suggests that we have evolved as beings capable of imagining and empathizing with the vulnerable emotions of others as if they were our own.

  The image projected by AFID (Advanced Floating Image Display : provided by Maxell, Ltd.) appears so real that it makes I want to reach out and touch it, yet it remains forever untouchable. The mysterious nature of this experience, along with the dreamlike impression it creates in the dark, strongly resonates with the feeling I get when gazing at the Moon floating in the night sky. Inspired by this sensation, this work highlights human existence within the vast timescale of a star’s transformation.
